The Central Board of Secondary Education i.e. CBSE has taken a big decision regarding the 10th class board exam. From 2026, the 10th class exam will be held twice a year. CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said, "The first phase of the examination will be conducted in February, followed by the second phase in May. The first phase will be compulsory for the students. At the same time, the second phase will be optional for the students. Students will be allowed to improve their performance in any three subjects from science, mathematics, social science and languages."

A statement of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also come out regarding this. He said, "Class 10 board exams twice a year will reduce stress, provide more flexibility and promote a joyful learning environment."

The Central Board of Secondary Education i.e. CBSE has approved the norms for conducting board exams twice a year for class 10. These can be understood better from the points below-
As per the approved norms, CBSE class 10 students of schools with winter session will get the option to appear for the board exam in any phase.
CBSE has also informed that internal assessments will be done only once during the academic session.
Separate results will be declared for both the stages of the examination.
The results of both the stages will be declared in April and June respectively.
The CBSE had announced the draft norms in February, which were put in the public domain for the feedback of stakeholders. The NEP recommends that to eliminate the "high-stakes" aspect of board exams, all students will be allowed to take the exams on two occasions during any school year.
