The Passport Seva Portal's server problems seem to have continued, and the site has apparently been temporarily shut down for "technical maintenance". On June 21, users trying to access the site and log in were greeted with a "planned maintenance" shutdown message. The portal had experienced significant server issues on Thursday and Friday, which caused major disruptions at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) across the country.
People took to X to complain. One user wrote: "It's a very bad service .. too much time wasted... i try multiple id's for registered.. but not reciveng any otp in emails."
According to another user: "Applied for passport on 17/03/2024 (ARN: 24-0004961492). ARN is visible on the portal, but while booking an appointment, getting this error: "No fee is defined for the selected ARN." Kindly resolve this issue."

Passport Sewa disruption continues
On Thursday and Friday, in many metropolitan areas, people arrived at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) only to discover that the facilities were not operational.
Users on X reported that attempts to reschedule appointments were futile, with no slots available for several weeks and the earliest openings pushed back by months.
The abrupt cancellations created further turmoil and added to the anxiety of those with imminent travel arrangements.
For many, news of the technical malfunction came only after reaching the PSK premises, adding to their frustration.
Persistent system failures generated a sense of instability for applicants, particularly those needing passports for urgent travel. Complaints poured in from parents, professionals, and others who cited lost time and escalating travel complications.
Although the service disruption was extensive, the Ministry of External Affairs and the official @passportsevamea handle on X did not promptly provide any public explanation.
This incident followed a similar outage in April, during which PSKs nationwide were forced to halt operations for two full days, causing widespread delays and forcing many to cancel plans at the last minute.
