4 Longest Kawad Yatra: As soon as the month of Sawan arrives, there is an atmosphere of Shiva devotion in the whole country. This is the time when lakhs of people take Kaanvad and fill the Ganga water from far and wide and set out to offer it to Lord Shiva. During this time, everyone covers the distance according to their ability; some go to the nearest temple, and some go hundreds of thousands of kilometers away. However, do you know that some Kaanvad Yatras in India are so long that it takes several days, and in some cases months, to complete them? 1. Gangotri to Rameshwaram Kaanvad Yatra – 3000+ km
This is considered to be the longest Kaanvad Yatra in India. This journey starts from Gangotri in Uttarakhand, from where devotees fill the Ganga water and travel to Rameswaram, located in Tamil Nadu, South India.
The total distance of this journey is considered to be more than 3000 kilometers. It is believed that some devotees also complete this journey on foot, and sometimes it takes several months. It is said that a priest completed it on foot in nine months. This journey is not only an example of devotion, but also of willpower and dedication.
2. Haridwar to Deoghar Kanwar Yatra – 1300 km
In second place comes the Haridwar to Deoghar Kanwar Yatra. In this journey, devotees fill water from the Ganges River and go to Baidyanath Dham located in Deoghar, Jharkhand. This Shiva temple is one of the twelve major Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
The distance from Haridwar to Deoghar is about 1300 kilometers. This journey is also very difficult, and most people do it by road, but some very devout devotees also try to cover this distance on foot.
3. Sultanganj to Baidyanath Dham Kanwar Yatra – 119 km
In third place is the journey from Sultanganj in Bihar to Deoghar in Jharkhand, which is one of the most popular Kanwar Yatras in India. In this, devotees fill water from the Uttarvahini Ganga of Sultanganj and cover a distance of about 119 km to reach Baidyanath Dham.
This journey is completed in two to three days, and lakhs of devotees participate in it. This journey may be short in length, but in terms of the number of devotees and enthusiasm, it is considered one of the largest Kanwar Yatras in the country.

4. Gangotri to Rishikesh Kanwar Yatra – 258 km
The journey from Gangotri to Rishikesh comes at number four. In this, devotees collect Ganga water from Gangotri and after travelling a distance of about 258 km, they offer the water at Neelkanth Mahadev temple located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. This journey is usually completed in 4 to 5 days. Many devotees travel on foot in this, especially the youth are very enthusiastic about it.
