This year, Nirjala Ekadashi's fast is on the 6th June and 7th of June. On the 6th of June, householders will observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast, while on the 7th of June, Vaishnav people will observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast. Many people want to know whether water should be drunk during Nirjala Ekadashi fast or not. When can water be drunk during Nirjala Ekadashi? Tirupati's astrologer Dr. Krishna Kumar Bhargava says that the answer to the first question is hidden in the name of this fast itself. Nirjala Ekadashi means Ekadashi fast which is without water. This is the only Ekadashi fast of the year in which consuming food and water is prohibited. Because of this, it is the most difficult Ekadashi fast among all the 24 Ekadashi fasts.

What will happen if you drink water on Nirjala Ekadashi?

If you observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast and drink water even by mistake, then your fast will be broken and it will become fruitless. Bhimsen, one of the five Pandavas who were always hungry, also observed the Nirjala Ekadashi fast. For this reason, it is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi.

According to religious beliefs, by observing a fast with restraint and discipline on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi and worshipping Lord Vishnu, sins are erased and salvation is attained. A person who does not observe any fast in his entire life should observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast once by giving up food and water. This will help him attain heaven at the end of his life.

Water is used only twice on Nirjala Ekadashi.

Bhimsen had asked Maharishi Ved Vyas about the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi. On this, he said that water is not consumed on this fast. But in the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi, the use of water is allowed only twice. When you take a bath in Brahma Muhurta on Nirjala Ekadashi, then you will use water for the first time. Then after that, when you do achamana for the resolution of the Nirjala Ekadashi fast, you will use water for the second time. Water is not used except for bathing and achamana.

Ved Vyas ji had told Bhimsen that there should not be more than six mase of water for achamana in Nirjala Ekadashi fast. On this day, food, fruits, juice, etc. are also prohibited. If you consume these things, then the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will be broken.

When to drink water in Nirjala Ekadashi?

In the Nirjala fast, often people drink water after sunrise on the second day. But doing so in the Nirjala Ekadashi fast will break your fast because you can consume anything in the Ekadashi fast only after the end of Hari Vasar. This year Hari Vasar of Nirjala Ekadashi will end on June 7 at 11:25 AM.

In such a situation, those who will keep the Nirjala Ekadashi fast on June 6, can drink water after 11:25 AM on June 7. Drinking water before that will break your fast. Therefore, do not make such a mistake. Those who want to drink water at the time of Parana can drink water after 01:44 PM on June 7. For householders, the time of Parana is between 01:44 PM to 04:31 PM.

Those who will keep the Nirjala Ekadashi Vaishnav fast on June 7, can drink water after sunrise on June 8 because Hari Vasar will end on June 7 itself. Sunrise time on June 8 is at 05:23 AM. Vaishnav Parana time is between 05:23 AM to 07:17 AM. Dwadashi Tithi will end at 07:17 AM. Parana should be done before the end of Dwadashi Tithi.
