India persists on Day 1

For the Indian team, the day belonged to their young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and debutant Sai Sudharsan who braved challenging conditions to notch up crucial half-centuries. Sudharsan, in particular, impressed with his grit and discipline, compiling a patient 61 off 151 deliveries.

Speakign about his [performance, Sudarshan said, “It was cloud-covered throughout the day. The ball was always doing something a bit of variable bounce, two-paced wicket, and seam movement. I just tried to play tighter and spend time in the middle.”

Jaiswal, meanwhile, continued his fine form, anchoring the innings with poise. The duo’s effort brought much-needed stability after India lost skipper Shubman Gill early marking his fourth straight toss defeat of the tour.

The only concern for India came in the form of Rishabh Pant, who suffered a minor injury and was taken for scans. However, team sources indicate it was a precautionary measure.

With conditions remaining tough for batting and England’s bowlers extracting movement throughout, India’s performance was commendable.
