Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The iconic Gandhi Hall, once a key part of Smart City Indore’s beautification plan, is now being eyed for an even grander purpose — the development of a world-class convention centre.
The government has initiated plans to transform the centrally located hall into an international-level facility, similar to Bhopal’s Kushabhau Thakre Hall.
Given its strategic location and the availability of parking, the site is ideal for high-level conferences and tourist services. During his recent visit to Indore, Union tourism ministry secretary V Vidyavathi was impressed by the proposal from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department.

Smart City CEO Divyank Singh said that the state government was considering sending a detailed proposal for approval. The plan includes collaboration with the Indore Smart City Project, IMC, and local heritage experts. Apart from state-of-the-art interiors and conferencing facilities, the development would also include a tourist information centre, café, souvenir shops, and exhibition spaces.
Officials aim to preserve the heritage structure while enhancing its utility. If approved, Gandhi Hall could soon become a centerpiece of Indore’s cultural and convention landscape.
