Mumbai: In a review meeting held by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently at Sahyadri guest house, Malabar Hill, in view of the growing population and persistent traffic congestion from goods transport, it was decided to implement an independent project featuring an underground metro, road widening, and new flyovers — offering a lasting traffic solution and driving urban and industrial growth.
Both metro and road widening projects will progress in parallel, ensuring faster, safer, and seamless connectivity. These coordinated efforts aim to ease traffic and boost regional development.
Through MMRDA’s ongoing elevated Metro Line-5, lakhs of citizens in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar will soon access modern, efficient public transport. A proposed extension to Ulhasnagar and Chikhloli near Ambernath is under active study to enhance regional connectivity.
Recognising Bhiwandi’s growing importance as a freight hub, it was ensured that financial constraints won’t hinder progress. It was also directed to incorporate suggestions from local public representatives, making the project inclusive and people-focused in the review meeting.
