Palghar, Maharashtra: A Police Sub-Inspector from Naya Nagar Police Station has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 to assist in securing bail for an accused in a narcotics case.
Sub-Inspector Ramnath Tandalkar (56), posted at Naya Nagar Police Station, had allegedly demanded the bribe from the brother of an accused who was arrested for selling MD (Mephedrone) drugs. According to reports, Tandalkar sought Rs 70,000 in exchange for preparing a favorable report to facilitate the accused’s release on bail.
Following a complaint lodged by the accused's brother with the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), a trap was laid on Friday night at Naya Nagar Police Station. Tandalkar was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000, part of the demanded amount.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Thane ACB Superintendent of Police Shivraj Patil, with the assistance of Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Dinkar N.
