An 18-year-old youth drowned while swimming in Rayladevi Lake in Thane on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Saheel Ghorpade (18), who lived with his family members in Sathenagar in Wagale Estate, Thane.
An official from the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation said, "We received information about a youth who drowned in the lake. Subsequently, we dispatched a rescue vehicle, a pickup truck, an ambulance, and an emergency tender to the site."
According to the RDMC official, Saheel had gone to Rayladevi Lake with his friends to swim. He ventured into the lake without properly gauging the depth of the water, leading to his drowning. A friend immediately alerted the locals and the rescue team.
Yasin Tadvi, Chief of the RDMC, said, "We carried out search operations for him. With the help of an underwater telescopic camera and thermal scan, the youth was retrieved by the rescue team within an hour and a half." The body was then sent to the Civil Hospital in Thane for further medical procedures.
