In light of the escalating tension between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of players. The IPL has been temporarily suspended for a week, with plans to resume the tournament with a new schedule. This decision came after the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was halted midway in Dharamsala, primarily due to safety concerns. To ensure the secure evacuation of players, the BCCI utilized the Vande Bharat train to assist in transporting them safely from the region.
BCCI's Directive to Players Leaving IndiaAs the IPL suspension continues, players, including foreign participants and support staff, are returning to their respective countries. The BCCI has provided logistical assistance to all players for their safe return. However, the big question remains whether these foreign players will return once the IPL resumes.
According to reports, some foreign players expressed concerns while in Dharamsala due to the heightened tensions. In response, the BCCI has reportedly instructed all 10 IPL franchises to ensure that their players and support staff are prepared to return to India within a week, should the situation improve. The board has made it clear to the foreign players that they may need to rejoin the IPL at short notice.
Future of IPL: To Resume After ReviewThe BCCI is expected to reassess the situation in 7 days. If the tensions between India and Pakistan subside, the IPL will likely resume, with a new schedule being announced for the remaining matches. However, if the situation does not improve, the board may opt to suspend the current season indefinitely.
Remaining Matches in IPL 2025With 57 matches already played in the current IPL season, the 58th match was interrupted midway. The BCCI has confirmed that this match will be completed, and there are 16 more matches remaining, bringing the total number of games in this season to 74. The future of these matches depends on the resolution of the ongoing security concerns.
