Coronation Street's DI Costello's plan for Lisa 'sealed' in mysterious scenes

Send Push

Coronation Street fans are growing increasingly worried about DI Costello's intentions. The ITV soap aired its latest episode on Wednesday night, and everything got off to a glowing start.

After Carla Connor (Alison King) suffered multiple failed attempts at proposing to her girlfriend Lisa Swain, the Detective Sergeant (Vicky Myers) took matters into her own hands and popped the question on the cobbles in front of the Underworld factory. Carla, who has buried two husbands and divorced two others during her time in Weatherfield, gleefully accepted.

But it all comes as viewers are trying to work out just what it is from her past that Lisa is hiding. When she first arrived on the scene, Lisa claimed that her first wife Becky, with whom she has teenage daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin), was killed in the line of duty. Viewers are unaware of how this had happened, and Carla herself has been trying to get to the bottom of the mystery as well.

When she was visiting Logan Radcliffe in prison some weeks ago, she passed him the name Tia Wardley. Carla's Google searches on the name were fruitless and when she told Lisa about it, she was told to forget about it. It even caused a row last week when Lisa discovered a piece of paper with the moniker on it in the recycling bin.

But as the happy news of their engagement spread around the Manchester backstreet, Lisa herself let slip the mysterious name to her colleague DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in the cafe.

When Kit told Lisa that Logan's uncle had been taken into prison, she said said: "I don't care. I want to enjoy today with as few conspiracy theories as possible." But Kit replied: "He might have information about Costello. Or Becky."

Lisa, keeping her voice under her breath, shot back: "You're as bad as Carla! She was like a dog with a bone when she went to see Logan and all he did was give him some dead-end lead about a Tia Wardley. It came to nothing. And that's caused enough problems between the two of us!" But Kit's ears had already pricked up at the strange name, and he set about trying to discover what he could.

Back at the station, Kit discovered after making a phone call that had been segregated in prison, and it was presumed that the last person to visit him was Carla. The DC then decided to go digging on the computer, but was caught by DI Costello, who could tell he was up to something after hours and sent him on his way.

Just towards the end of the episode, Costello made a phone call himself. No indication about who was on the other end was given, but Costello said: "Just listen. DC Green has been sniffing around. He's got Tia Wardley's name from someone, I found him earlier searching her name alongside Radcliffe's.

"Don't worry. It's in hand. I've got a feeling that DS Swain's been whispering in his ear. She's gonna be too close for comfort." The call recipient's response could not be heard, but Costello replied: "It's okay. I'll deal with Swain myself."

Fans immediately weighed in on social media after the mysterious phone call, and one wrote: "Feel like that we are in for a bumper ride coming up with #swarla DI Costello, you will find that Logan is the one who mentioned Tia Wardley first!!! Logan>Carla>Lisa>Kit."

Another said: "Wow that corrie ep was amazing thank god swarla are engaged now took them long enough but costello needs to be caught out now cos I dont trust him!"

Another predicted it could be linked to drama that has already been teased as they said: "So what if Costello actually gets someone to run Betsy over to keep Lisa busy and away from looking more into Tia Wardley & it wasn’t actually Dylan and Brody just a coincidence that they where driving a stolen car at the time and will probably be blamed for it."

A fourth wondered: "Costello, who you talking too, hmm? I do not want this guy to be the villain I actually hate you," and a fifth said: "And with the dark undertones of Costello looming in the background, happiness won’t last long!"

Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.
