Lineker managed to hold back the tears while getting emotional at the end of the show, but many of those watching at home had already been left annoyed by an error beforehand.

The penultimate game of the bumper edition, which contained 10 matches, was Ipswich vs West Ham. Introducing the game, Lineker said: "Relegated Ipswich signed off from the looking to end a run of eight straight defeats at Portman Road, West Ham were their opponents. James Fielden was watching."

"Err...@BBCMOTD David Moyes isn't our manager!" one West Ham fan wrote on X. "Why did MOTD graphic have as Manager?" another questioned. "Picture of David Moyes for the West Ham game fellas?? @BBCMOTD" a third noted.

The error was clearly from the production staff, who had forgot to update the graphic for the West Ham manager, with Moyes having previously taken charge of the club. Thankfully, Hammers fans were happier with what followed: a 3-1 win for their side to round off a disappointing campaign.

Once Bournemouth's 2-0 win over was out of the way, Lineker took centre stage again to say farewell before Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates for the 2025/26 season.
