Hollyoaks star hints at unexpected twist for Tom amid Clare and Grace drama

Tom Cunningham could feature in a major and unexpected Hollyoaks twist with villain Clare Devine, one star has teased.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, actor Ellis Hollins hinted things may go rather differently for the duo after a history of drama. Villain Clare was married to Tom's late brother Max Cunningham at one point, and amid her plan to kill him she targeted his younger brother Tom.

What Clare put him through when he was a child has no doubt left Tom with a score to settle. Ellis teased this would be the case as they come face-to-face once more, possibly, soon.

Recent scenes have shown Tom return to the Channel 4 soap, and unexpectedly he is in prison. He happens to be locked up with Clare's half-brother Rex Gallagher.

With Clare finding out Tom was inside and that he was keen to help police officer Donny by giving him information about her, she wanted him silenced. She threatened Rex and wanted Tom dead.

This didn't happen and in the end Rex and Tom have somewhat bonded, discussing their links to the village. Rex's initial plan to target Tom was forgotten, but could Tom end up helping Clare in a twist no one would see coming?

Actor Ellis told us that when he first found out the details surrounding his comeback, he thought Tom and Clare would possibly team up. He wondered if the enemies could "form a partnership" and go down a completely different route this time.

He explained: "I had wondered if we'd form a partnership, but I'm not too optimistic about something like that happening. But we will have to see what goes on down the line, and whether our characters diverge, or if they'll hate each other even more."

But Ellis is banking on there being some sort of showdown for the pair, especially now Clare has proven she wants him out of the way. With Tom prepared to go against her, upcoming scenes will see him learn Rex doesn't agree with his sister's ways of dealing with things.

Ellis is eager for Tom to get his final revenge on her, believing it's not just for Tom. He told us: "To really have that second chance for Tom to have redemption against Clare is important for a lot of people, as well as Tom himself.

"It's gonna be so interesting to see whether Tom can get his revenge on Clare and whether he bides his time, and how orchestrated it will be." So might Rex end up teaming up with Tom to destroy the villain for once and for all? It comes amid Clare and her sister Grace Black's dodgy dealings coming to light, with Clare eager to stop the police learning exactly what has been going on.
