Chelsea are preparing to take on Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup as the club begin their latest quest for silverware. The Blues have won the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup under Enzo Maresca and will be seeking to add another to their trophy collection.

Maresca’s side will likely be heavily rotated from the team that suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was shown a straight red card after just five minutes at Old Trafford and Maresca responded with quick-fire substitutions.

Despite falling 2-0 down, Chelsea were offered a glimmer of hope after Casemiro was sent off for United in first-half stoppage time. Trevoh Chalobah scored for the Blues with 10 minutes to go, but the away side were unable to find an equaliser before the game concluded.

Maresca will hope the Carabao Cup can get his team back to winning ways, having been held by Brentford and losing away to Bayern Munich before their clash with United. The Blues travel to Lincoln, who currently sit third in League One.

The Imps will be eager to cause an upset at Sincil Bank, while Chelsea will have aspirations of winning the League Cup for the first time in a decade. Here, Mirror Football provides all the details about the upcoming Carabao Cup fixture.

Chelsea will be without goalkeeper Sanchez for their Carabao Cup tie with Lincoln. The Spain international’s red card resulted in a one-match ban, which he will serve on Tuesday.

The Blues have a fresh injury concern in Palmer after he was substituted due to a groin issue early on in the loss to United. Maresca has explained why he opted to substitute Palmer after going down to 10 men, despite the midfielder passing a fitness test before the game.

“Yeah, Cole probably is the only one that we need to assess a little bit,” the Chelsea boss said in his pre-match press conference. “The rest, they are okay. We are just recovering from last week when we played three games in a row.”

He added: “Cole is one, and then we have some players who have had problems for a long time like Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro. They are trying to manage it a little bit themselves, but then the rest are okay.”

The Blues will also continue to be without Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia, despite making progress in their respective recoveries. Maresca has suggested that some of the club’s academy players will feature in Chelsea’s matchday squad.

Meanwhile, Lincoln were without winger Reeco Hackett for their 3-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday due to illness. Manager Michael Skubala believes his side will rise to the occasion against Chelsea.

“Before this game there was no mention of Chelsea, but now we've got the three points we have to recover quickly and get ready for an exciting game on Tuesday,” Skubala said after Lincoln's win over Luton. “Of course it'll be hard and we know their quality, but we'll put a team on the pitch that we think can win the game. We truly believe at home we can cause damage and hurt anyone.”
