Fans have admitted that they are staying up all night to watch Netflix's latest true crime series that has been dubbed as 'blood curdling'.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is the third season of the Ryan Murphy-created anthology series. Previous instalments have retold the lives and crimes of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, who shot their parents. This time around, the focus is on Wisconsin killer Ed Gein.

According to Netflix's synopsis: "In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades."

All eight episodes of the series were released earlier today (October 3). In the UK, new titles are added to Netflix's library at approximately 8am.

However, users in the US have a head-start, with additions dropping between midnight and 3am depending on time zones. As a result, American viewers have claimed they stayed up all nigh to begin binge watching the new season of Monster.

One admitted: "It’s 5.23am and I’m watching the Monster: Ed Gein Story on Netflix. I’ve been looking forward to watching this. Nothing like true crime docudrama about a serial killer at sunrise."

While the series is yet to register a score on Rotten Tomatoes yet, and no critic reviews have been published online, fans have already begun to share their thoughts. One stated on social media platform X: "It’s unnerving, grotesque, chilling, blood curdling and absolutely outstanding! Monster The Ed Gein Story is an absolute MUST-WATCH for horror and true crime fans."

Another added: "Omg. I started Monster Ed Gein on Netflix tonight. It's so good. I'm only on episode two and it's exceeding any expectations thus far. Layered. Historic. Meta. Brilliant. If the rest of the series is as good as this introduction, I'm completely enthralled."

Someone else praised the lead performance by British actor Charlie Hunnam, known for previous roles in Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim. They said: "Just started Ed Gein’s Monster series and Charlie Hunnam’s acting of that psycho is a bit too good."

However, others urged some caution ahead of those who were interested in watching. Specifically they expressed their shock at some of the graphic and violent scenes present in the episodes.

One warned: "The new Monster series on Netflix is absolutely revolting. I thought Dahmer was bad."

While another suggested: "Monster: The Ed Gein Story's not for the faint of heart."
