Fried eggs are a cornerstone of British breakfasts, an essential element of the Full English (or Full Welsh or Full Scottish or 'Ulster Fry') which may not be the healthiest but is a delicious, protein-packed boost either in a sandwich, on toast, or as a complete, full-fat fry up.
However, you don't necessarily require a frying pan and loads of greasy chaos to create the perfect fried egg. Actually, you can fry an egg in the microwave in under a minute.
It's lower in calories, as you require far less oil, and there's no smoke and crispy charred fragments everywhere, so it's simpler, faster, healthier and equally as delicious as preparing fried eggs with a frying pan in the conventional manner.

It's a fried egg cooking technique my dad used to champion, but it appears he wasn't a barmy oddball as actually experts also endorse this approach to cooking fried eggs, writes Alex Evans of the Express.
It's incredibly straightforward to prepare fried eggs in the microwave. As the One Sweet Appetite food blog reveals: "Let me begin by saying, these Microwave Fried Eggs will truly change your life.
"You think I'm kidding, but I'm not! With just a one-minute cook time, they've become my son's go-to breakfast he can make in the blink of an eye, no joke.
"At our house, we've been cooking eggs in the microwave for years. It's actually one of our favourite methods. It's pretty much hassle-free, totally foolproof and yields consistent results every time. On top of that, there's little to no mess."
To whip up a microwave fried egg, lightly oil a dish or deep plate. Next, break an egg into the dish.
With a knife, gently pierce the yolk (without breaking it - this stops it from bursting later), then whack it in the microwave on high for 30 seconds.
Let it sit for a minute, then inspect the egg. If you prefer it more cooked, add additional 10-second bursts to cook it further.
Then simply dish it up onto toast, bread or whatever takes your fancy - no hassle.
