As part of his ongoing five-nation diplomatic tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently concluded a high-profile visit to Brazil, where he was given a grand welcome and awarded the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, the country’s highest civilian honour. The recognition came in acknowledgment of his efforts to strengthen India-Brazil relations and promote cooperation on global platforms.
PM Modi shared key moments from his Brazil visit on social media platform X, stating, “May the friendship between India and Brazil become stronger.” His visit coincided with the BRICS Summit, which was held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6–7, followed by his arrival in Brasilia where Brazil’s Defence Minister Jose Musio Monteiro Filho welcomed him at the airport.
At the airport, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome, which included a vibrant performance of traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae dance. Indian cultural elements were also featured during the reception. The Prime Minister praised the warm hospitality and appreciated the artistic performances arranged in his honour.
During his stay, PM Modi met with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and the two leaders held bilateral talks on strengthening their strategic partnership. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions focused on areas such as trade, defence, space, energy, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people exchanges.
PM Modi described the BRICS summit as highly productive, emphasizing that his interactions with global leaders during the summit will contribute to boosting India’s relations with several countries.
Modi’s visit to Brazil followed his trips to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina. On July 9, he reached Namibia, where he is scheduled to address the Parliament as part of the final leg of his tour.
