Around 150 police officers and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene, police said. About 500 people were on board the ICE express train en route to Vienna when the attack occurred, police added.
Those injured have been taken to the hospital, and the attacker has been detained. The German newspaper Bild has reported that police said the attacker was a 20-year-old Syrian. According to the outlet, the incident happened just before 2pm on the ICE 91 train. Passengers reportedly pulled the train's emergency brake after the attack, causing the train to come to a stop before it reached a station.
