TV drama Mix Tape hit the screens earlier this year in a sweet adaptation from the acclaimed novel Mix Tape by Jane Sanderson. Acquired by the BBC, it immediately had people talking when it aired over the summer, with viewers describing their first watch as utterly emotional.
The series follows freelance music journalist Dan O'Toole and author Alison Connor who grew up as teenagers in Sheffield and fell in love. Fast-forward to present day, viewers eagly wait for their paths to cross again. When they do, both of them are married to other people, so we look at the story from an entire "will they? won't they?" perspective. And as viewers eagerly waited to see what happened with the pair, it received endless amounts of praise on IMDb.
Getting a 10/10 review on IMDb, people have praised the new drama as one user wrote: "I have had to binge watch it because I couldn't stop watching it. This is one of the best series I've watched in a while. It got me hooked and my husband has loved it too.
"I've felt quite emotional, it's just so good and so well produced and directed and well acted."
The user also said that as someone who lives near Sheffield, it brought the city in the late 80s "back to life", they added: "I really can't recommend it enough. Just wanted to give it as many stars as I could."
Meanwhile, a man in his 50s said it was "thoroughly heartbreaking from start to finish", adding that he and his wife had watched all four hours in one evening.
A 9 star review also saw one user say the show was "refreshing" and that they were glued to their screen, with the only negative aspect being "varying accents".
It's no surprise that the series did incredibly well, because the book, which was published in 2020, also flew off the shelves with a whopping 4.5/5 star review on Amazon.
Sanderson previously spoke about her book being made into a series and said that it was an "amazing feeling", but she felt "wounded" by some of the changes that were made for TV, despite understanding it at a later date.
She added: "On the whole it was a really brilliant evocation of my book and it was definitely true to the spirit of the book."
