Manchester United have reportedly submitted an improved offer for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils have been pursuing the Cameroon international, having previously had a bid worth £55million rejected.
However, talks between both clubs have since continued. As a resultm United had been expected to make a second bid closer to Brentford's valuation. Indeed, the Red Devils have now seemingly offered a package that will strongly test the resilience of their Premier League rivals.
According to talkSPORT, United have now tabled a bid in excess of £60million. Manager Ruben Amorim is said to be keen to complete the deal in time for the 25-year-old to switch to Manchester before the start of pre-season.
The development follows news that the club have also contacted Chelsea over the potential signing of Christoper Nkunku. Amorim reportedly wants two new forwards in his first-team squad as he looks to improve on a harrowing 2024/25 campaign.
The Bees are under pressure to negotiate a deal for Mbeumo, 25, given his contract expires in 12 months time. The departure of Thomas Frank to Tottenham had fuelled rumours that United's chase would be derailed, and the ex-Troyes man would follow the Dane across London.
However, Mbeumo seemingly has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. After joining when Brentford were in the Championship in 2019, he's scored 70 times in 242 games for the club.
If Amorim does get the Mbeumo deal over the line, it's likely to accelerate the departure of forwards already at the club. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford are all expected to be sold to fund the spending spree.
United missed out on a financial windfall by failing to qualify for Europe next season. That means any purchases will need to be balanced out to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
