A TikToker has shown the way she keeps her spinach fresh for up to a month. Spinach can go bad quite fast, without us even realising it. Even when we store it in the fridge, it can go dark green and slimy quite quickly, making it unusable for salads, sandwiches and other dishes. However, there are some simple tricks you can employ to make your spinach last longer, such as this creative one.

TikTok user TasteGreatFoodie shared her method for storing spinach, revealing that it stays fresh for up to a month. Spinach is known to spoil quickly because of its high moisture levels. This creates an environment where bacteria can grow, and the leaves start to decompose. You will notice a wet, slimy texture when your spinach leaves start to go bad. To prevent this, it is important to reduce the moisture levels when you're storing spinach.

This TikToker first revealed that she goes for pre-washed spinach in the supermarket. That way, she doesn't have to wash the spinach herself and add to the moisture levels, which could speed up the decaying process.

Instead of leaving the spinach in the bag, she takes it out to store it in an airtight container. But before she puts it anywhere, she places a paper towel on the bottom of the container.

She then places spinach on top of that, followed by another paper towel and another layer of spinach. Before placing the lid on to seal it air-tight, she places another paper towel over the spinach, meaning there are three paper towels in the container.

She then shows how fresh the spinach is, even three weeks after she first purchased it. However, she says that the top paper towel should be changed if you notice it becoming damp.

The paper towel trick is simple. It absorbs the excess moisture, slowing down the decaying process. It works for other leafy greens such as rocket and lettuce, as well as fresh herbs.

People took to the video's comments section to praise this trick. One person wrote, "I do the same thing with cilantro [coriander]." Another shared: "I do this with my salad mix and it really does work! Try it, you won't regret it."
