The end of Windows 10 is almost here, with all free support for this popular operating system ending next month. The update will mean those still using this ageing software will find they no longer get vital updates, security patches or bug fixes. October 14 is the deadline from Microsoft which means millions must make a decision fast. "30-Day Reminder: Windows 10, will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025," Microsoft warned. "The October 2025 monthly security update will be the last update available. After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats."
There is the option to sign up for Extended Security Updates (ESUs), which will keep PCs safe for an extra three years, but these don't include new features or exciting upgrades.
If your laptop is too old to move over to Microsoft's latest OS, and this news has got you thinking it's time to switch to a new Windows 11-powered laptop, there's a major update coming soon which could convince you.
The team at Qualcomm has just confirmed the launch of two new processors, which will offer a massive boost in PC performance and could also extend battery life.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme will arrive in devices at the start of next year and expect better graphics, faster multitasking, quicker application launching and improved gaming. All of this will be done without hurting time between charges.
In fact, Qualcomm is boasting that users can expect "multi-day" battery life, although we'll have to wait and see exactly what that means when devices arrive in stores.
Other extras that these chips will bring include smart AI upgrades that should help guide you through your day, tougher security and lightning-fast 5G for up to 10 Gbps peak speeds when away from Wi-Fi.

We are yet to hear which manufacturers will be including these chips in their portable PCs but expect to see the X2 Elite in premium laptops. The X2 Elite Extreme could feature in more pro-style gagets as this chip is designed fo tasks, such as game designing, 3D rendering and video editing.
"Snapdragon X2 Elite strengthens our leadership in the PC industry, providing legendary leaps in performance, AI processing and battery life to enable the experiences that consumers deserve," said Kedar Kondap, SVP and GM of compute and gaming, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
"We continue to push the boundaries of technological innovation, introduce breakthrough products that set new industry standards and redefine what's possible for PCs."
