T'puram: Food and civil supplies minister GR Anil on Monday assured that all necessary measures will be taken to minimize inconvenience to residents during the ongoing national highway (NH) development works in the Kaniyapuram and Pallippuram areas. Anil visited the affected areas and interacted directly with locals.
Speaking to media, he said that although the structure of Kaniyapuram Junction was already finalized, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed that it is not feasible to permit an elevated corridor between the junction and the KSRTC bus depot. However, following ministerial intervention, permission was granted for the construction of an underpass in front of the Kaniyapuram bus depot to ease local traffic.
Addressing concerns raised by citizen groups protesting the closure of the Pallippuram–Andoorkonam–Pothencode road for development works, the minister said that while constructing an underpass at that location is not possible, the NHAI has proposed an alternative. A new entry-exit facility near the Andoorkonam Jn from the service road to the main carriageway will be created to ease movement and provide relief to locals.
