INDORE: Seven people were feared to be dead and four others injured when a van lost control after hitting a motorcycle and plunged into an open well in Mandsaur on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1.15pm on Sunday in the Narayangarh police station area near the Budha-Takarawat junction. A woman’s body was recovered from the well, and the Eco van was pulled out using a crane.
Among the victims was Gobar Singh, a resident of Abakhedi, who was riding the motorcycle at the time of the collision. Additionally, Manohar Singh, a local villager who entered the well to help with the rescue, also lost his life, reportedly due to gas inhalation inside the well.

SP Abhishek Anand said that the van was carrying more than ten passengers who were traveling from Unhel in Ujjain district to the Aantari Mata temple in the Manasa region of Neemuch district.

Following the accident, four injured individuals, including a three-year-old girl, were rescued and admitted to the Mandsaur district hospital for treatment. The injured were identified as Maya Keer, 26, Priyanshi, 3, Devendra, 12, and Mukesh, 27.

Rescue operations were launched immediately with the help of local police, Home Guard personnel, and villagers.
Images from the scene showed intense efforts as a crane was used to extract the submerged van from the well, while some passengers were still trapped inside during the operation. Deputy chief minister Jagdish Devda, district collector Aditi Garg, SP Abhishek Anand, Additional SP Gautam Solanki, and SDOP Narendra Solanki were present at the scene to oversee the rescue and manage the situation.
