Kanpur: In the name of providing housing under the 'PM Aasra Awas Yojna', a fraudster from the Ajitganj area of the city deceived nine families by taking Rs 26,000 from them and giving them fake receipts. One Mohd Sharif, of Babupurwa, said that he had met one Zulfiqar Khan alias Rehan of Ajitganj Bagahiwho claimed that he worked with PM Aasra Awas Yojana office and promised to ensure the colony's approval, charging Rs 1,800 per person.
Sharif submitted nine forms, including his own and transferred Rs 16,200 online. Later, Khan provided a receipt for the colony and demanded Rs 10,000, promising to deliver the allocation letters. Sharif paid him Rs 10,000.
However, when they went to take possession of the colony 15 days later, they discovered the receipt was fake. ohd Sharif filed a complaint at the Babupurwa police station.
"Investigations are continuing, " said Babupurwa police station in-charge. tnn
