Kochi: In a major drug seizure, three West Bengal natives were arrested with approximately 30kg of ganja on Sunday. The arrested persons were identified as Suhel Rana Mandal, 40, from Ghoshpara, Murshidabad, and Alen Gil Sheikh, 33, and Haseena Khatoon, 33, from Jalangi, Murshidabad. They were apprehended by rural district Dansaf team and Muvattupuzha police.
They were arrested from the bus stop in Sangamam Junction, Muvattupuzha, during an operation led by district police chief M Hemalatha. They travelled by train from Odisha to Thrissur and then took an autorickshaw to the location to avoid police detection. Their plan was to sell the drug bought for Rs 2,000 for Rs 20,000 here and return quickly. The cannabis was brought in 27 packets.
This is one of the largest drug busts in the rural district in recent times. The investigation team included narcotics cell DSP J Umesh Kumar, Muvattupuzha DSP PM Baiju, inspector Basil Thomas and Dansaf team.
