Chatra: A 38-year-old person, identified as Kamlesh alias Bhotel Pandey (38) from Khirgaon Pandey Tola in Hazaribag, was found dead in a well behind a petrol pump near Simra rest house on Tuesday. The recovery triggered road blockade by local residents demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased and arrest of the culprits.
Blood stains were discovered outside the well, and the victim was identified by his clothing and footwear. His scooter's discovery near the well led locals to find his body.
After Bada Bazar police retrieved the body, relatives and locals sat on a protest with the body blocking the busy Barkagaon road.
According to family members, Kamlesh's absence on Monday night prompted a search. The following morning, they discovered his scooter near the chowk. Upon searching the area, they found blood traces near the well and subsequently located his body inside.
The roadblock severely affected approximately 3,000 students and parents from Vivekanand School, causing significant difficulties in returning home. Students attending Doon Central School, Gulmohar School, DPS, Angel High School, and Markham College faced similar challenges. Undergraduate students scheduled for semester examinations at Markham College struggled to reach their centre due to blocked routes on Khirgaon Road, Subhash Nagar road, and Hurhuru.
Sadar SDPO Amit Anand requested protesters to end the blockade, promising swift investigation. Subsequently, SDO Baidyanath Kamti offered assurances regarding compensation and govt benefits. The protest concluded at 1 pm.
Anand said they were investigating possible connections to drug-related activities but refrained from further comments pending the investigation's completion.
