The Coldplay kiss saga, involving a firm CEO and his HR head, has now made its way to a Major League Baseball game in the United States.
A video now going viral on social media shows, during a recent game at Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia Phillies ’ mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, took centre stage on the stadium’s kiss cam, cheekily re-enacting the now infamous viral moment involving the CEO of Astronomer Andy Byron and his company’s HR head Kristin Cabot. The mascot’s theatrical display drew laughter and applause from the crowd, and, of course, the internet.
A video of the moment from match between Phillies and Los Angeles Angels was shared by a user on X, it read,
“Lol this is hilarious. The Phillies had a kiss cam and had the Phillie Phanatic re-enact the Coldplay affair.”
The clip has since gone viral, with netizens dubbing it the “crossover episode we didn’t know we needed.”
What is the Coldplay kiss scandal?
The meme-worthy moment was triggered after Byron and Cabot were caught on a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert in Boston, earlier this week, sparking viral outrage and allegations of an affair. The company has since placed both on leave and launched an internal investigation. The incident quickly turned into a meme fest, drawing widespread scrutiny and ridicule online.
When the camera zoomed in on them, they quickly ducked and tried to shield their faces. And to which Chris Martin quipped, “Oh look at these two... either they're having an affair or they're very shy.” The statement was enough to take social media by storm.
Social media reacts
The Phillies' kiss cam parody has only added fuel to the meme fire. Social media platforms are now flooded with reactions ranging from “baseball’s never been more entertaining” to “this is how you stay culturally relevant.”
One user quipped, “the Phillie Phanatic understood the assignment,” while another joked, “this is corporate drama meets sports theatre - 10/10.”
While one user posted on X, “Each day on twitter there is one main character. the goal is to never be.”
Reacting to the Phillies' ‘kiss cam’, one fan posted: "the " Coldplay Kiss Cam " has made its debut at Citizens Bank Park."
“The Phillies did their own kiss cam & played Coldplay… with a phanatic affair.” another one added on X.
The clip quickly became a cultural talking point, especially given the professional dynamics involved, with netizens both condemning the potential ethical breaches and poking fun at the scandal’s cinematic feel.
