MUMBAI: Tesla has started refunding booking amounts to customers in India who had reserved the Model 3 back in 2016, marking a significant step towards the electric vehicle (EV) giant’s long-awaited entry into the Indian automobile market. Alongside this, new job listings on Tesla’s India careers page further strengthen speculation of an imminent launch.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Tesla has sent emails to early bookers, informing them of the refund process.
“We would like to return your reservation fee for the time being,” the emails state.
“When we finalize our offerings in India, we will reach out in the market again. We hope to see you back with us once we are ready to launch and deliver in your country.”

The refund move comes as Tesla discontinues the older generation Model 3 globally to make way for the new generation Model 3 and other upcoming models.
